CONSIDERATIONS - Class 2

1. From the four perspectives of (1) Employer Group, (2) HMO/Insurer, (3) Provider (Physician, Hospital), and (4) Patient, list the advantages and disadvantages of the following methods of payment to physicians: (1) capitation and (2) fee-for-service.

2.    Describe how a physician's practice would be effected by the following methods of payment for services:  fee-for-service, discounted fee-for-service, and capitation.

3.    Analyze what it means to be a provider and to have patient's in HMOs, PPOs, POS, and indemnity plans.  From a provider's perspective, how does it matter what type of health insurance coverage a patient has?  How would a physician's practice change based on such insurance coverage of patients?
